In fact, it’s in my contract. So clients know that that won’t be happening. I also have a part of my contract that states every event is unique, and I cannot guarantee that the *exact* style they saw in my portfolio will be replicated. I think you do, indeed have to learn how to stand your ground in this business. On TikTok, I saw somebody sounding off in the comments how you are absolutely entitled to your RAW’s and how *you* are the boss. If you let somebody tell you that and scare you into submission, you’ll forget that no, you don’t owe anybody RAW’s, ever. Why? Because you, the photographer, are the legal owner of any photo you take, the moment you press the shutter button. UNLESS you do a transfer of copyright to the client, YOU are the legal owner. And giving RAW’s out is the equivalent of me demanding a restaurant hand over all the ingredients for a meal…bringing them home…and then adding my own random ingredients…but then saying it’s from that restaurant. So you absolutely must stand your ground, educate clients beforehand, and have these kind of things in your contract. *That being said.* I have been in business for a decade. And I’ve learned a lot of things. And you truly have to pick your battles. If this photographer had swallowed their pride and re-edited the photos…yes, it would have taken hours. But then it would have been over and done with. The bride would be happy and she would disappear. Instead…now…this photographer’s work and how they deal with adversity has been immortalized for the entire Internet to see. I don’t do tons of weddings, anymore. When I did them, I was…like everyone…annoyed beyond belief at Uncle Bob. And all the guests holding up cell phones during the ceremony. I used to educate clients on this. All of them would assure me that they didn’t have an Uncle Bob waiting in the wings. And they all agreed to take my unplugged wedding suggestion into consideration. And all of them proved my predictions to be right. But what I started realizing is, a wedding is not for photography. Or flowers. Or a gown. It’s a family event. It’s for a couple to be celebrated by people who love them. So yes, you might get your job done faster if Uncle Bob wasn’t in the way. But it will also mean something to Uncle Bob to take photos on his entry level DSLR of his dear niece while he’s still alive. And that’s honestly more important than our egos…or having our work from that wedding published in a magazine. My point is that you have to pick your battles. Don’t always pick the battle just because you can. You might win the battle; but you can lose the war.

I am a pro mua and I have a very good understanding for how a photographers styles affect makeup. I feel like she also should have known this as well. Her bridal makeup was clearly cool toned, and her photographer is extremely warm so this will obviously affect her makeup tones. She should have chosen a true to life photographer or even one a bit moodier which would show more of the water. I agree the photographer should have handled this better and just re done the edits to avoid this whole mess but the bride also should have known what she was getting into.

So…. I’m not a fan of photographers that make skin super orange. It’s very popular right now and I have no idea why. But if the bride hired a photographer that edits people with orange skin, then she chose the wrong person to hire. It’s the brides fault.

Customer service 101…sometimes you are going to have to do something to resolve a situation….that brings you more publicity and goodwill than being hardass!

The photographers I have known and worked with always consult with their client on how they want their pictures to look like even if the clients don't know most of the times. And they show them samples of the photos. But I guess if you get to the point where you become a "known photographer with this style" you become stubborn about changing it. I would rather take a "photographer known to work well with clients".

I feel this is a very biased and one-sided take from someone who sounds like a bit of a people pleaser and doormat. I don’t think it’s so much the extra work the photographer would need to do, but the principle of the thing. The bride knew who she hired, she knew what she was getting. The photographer doesn’t edit photos in that natural style she ended up wanting, I think the compromise on raws was fair. Maybe they could’ve negotiated on the cost, but I have a feeling she was just so fed up of the bride bitching and moaning and emotionally manipulative by crying and getting her husband to cry along as well that she didn’t even care about making her happy anymore. On top of this I think the bride communicated her wants very poorly. And it doesn’t take a professional to be able to see or tell the sepia tones, what?

I get the photographer not wanting to send ALL the hundred & hundreds of raw photos, but I do not understand what the issue is with just sending the raws of the photos the bride didn't like so she could edit them herself. The photographer can have a personal style, obviously, but the fact they're so unwilling to edit in an arguably easier and more basic style is very weird and unprofessional even 🤨

i’m not a photographer so i have question. You mentioned you would never send a client the raws of the photos. Why is that? Nothing malicious in this question, I am just curious and want to know the reasons :)

As a photographer I feel for both sides, On one hand if you look at the photographer work its is very warm and the bride said she picked her off of Instagram so she knew it was very warm. I think at first she did love the edits bc she thought that that was what she wanted in the photos, but you can tell from the brides reedit of the photos she really wanted more true to life edits. In which case she needed to pick a photographer that edited in such away, and hired the wrong person. However I feel that the photographer could have handled the situation better, the bride might have been happy with a simple adjustment of the temperature of the photos. Or many other solutions that wouldn't have cause this mess.

I am not so upset that someone wants to go there with artistic concepts. I am upset at just how badly it was executed. I am white and Native American and that really isn’t how I would do it. That said… people on the other side of the appropriation thing would look at me with my blonde hair and in 2024 would already 🤮 when they are actually kind of ignorant. There are others like me in Oklahoma who actually know. Who are also members of the tribe etc. But it also is not really a fashion statement, it is a reverence for your family members and culture. It also looks nicer than that… there is not this “savage” in the jungle thing. Because they were actually not and had a society for thousands of years. The materials and execution were more sophisticated so that would bother me if I had been a model on that shoot. It is not so much you darkened my skin. My great grandma had dark hair and olive skin even though she died a couple years ago. She might have looked more like your American 40’s girl but going there I would want to honor her. There is a culture of honor in Native Americans. Also things really did vary from tribe to tribe and mine was an early established more sophisticated tribe. I could not do it as a costume for the lols. If I did it though it would be a better picture because I would be thinking more in line with how she was thinking. It was a strength in knowing something about the land, that the other settlers did not. It was an athleticism in day to day life and and a kind of warrior badass.

For 8K USD she should be delivered pics that she is happy with. Yes, she choose someone with a certain style, but the bride should be happy with the final images.

I personally like the clients style much better than photographer’s. And as a photographer, I always tell clients to please let me know if they’d like anything changed regarding editing and cropping. Not many have asked for anything, just a few different crops and one gal wanted more pale skin, but I’d be happy to help if my client wanted.

I think most intelligent viewers understand REALITY TV is just that. To think otherwise, they need to blame their parents and teachers. ANTM was a fun show and that was it. Similar to shows today, they are just entertainment. Just like social media, it's just entertainment.

i've been a wedding photographer and i'm on the bride side. if you have a client that's not happy with the results because you "style" doesn't work with the actual weather conditions, you should change your edditing to make the pics look good for them. if you use a preset with yellow at 68% it doesnt mean you can't move the slide or your style is gone. we must keep in mind this are not art pieces to hang in a gallery wall, these are someone's life memories and they paid you for it, so photographer sould have offered some edition options and have some flexibitily

As a wedding photographer myself, do not hire us if we are a certain style and then expect us to edit in another. If you want a natural looking look to your photos hire someone who does that. 😄 Idk where the confusion is. Its basically common sense at this point. Do not come to a warmer toned photographer who literally knows what settings to do in every type of situation to ensure they get the same look, and ask them to edit light and airy and natural. Like just go and hire a light and airy and natural photographer. So simple. 😅❤

The $4,000 for the raws is just another way to say that no amount of money is worth compromising a photographers reputation over raw photos. I do think it would have been very easy to just start from scratch on the photos and make them look good while still fitting in with the photographers editing style

you hired me for my look! and my previous shoots ... I color grade my images . it puts a warm tone on the images...... YOU HAVE TO PAY 10 X for the RAWS! THATS HOW IT WORKS!

Do people not understand that the bride SAW what she wanted on the photographer's IG but that's not even what she got? The bride didn't even get the tones she hired her photographer for. She got some crappy sepia-greenish edit instead. So she didn't even get what she paid for. I don't know what the lot of you are on about. I completely stand with the bride and I'm a photographer. The photographer was on nonsense. The client is not in the wrong here. The problem with a lot of photographers is that ego tends to obstruct common sense. Essentially, wedding ain't about us, the photographer. I'm with you 100%, Jessica.

I like how the client wanted to meet in the middle. Yeah, she wanted a golden hue, but dialed down so you can still see the white of her dress and the makeup, etc. I don’t know where this communication was lost. I don’t think many want every photo to be all yellow and not have the colors stand out. And I know we are only getting one side, but it sounds like she is trying her best to pay and work with the photographer. I feel the photographer should have set her/his pride aside and tried working with the client.

I feel like they said $4,000 for the raws because they wanted to be petty towards the bride for not liking her work.
